I’ve been to soo many Halloween parties, but had never thrown one of my OWN(even though I’d always wanted to!) So, I decided IT WAS TIME!
If I’m going to throw a party at my house, I’m transforming my entire home. I want my guests to enter and be mesmerized. This party accomplished that for me and I was thrilled! And I want yours to do the same!
You ever go to a Halloween party and wonder, “why is it so bright in here?”
Personally, everyone is different of course, but I prefer it to be somewhat dark and spooky with THEME LIGHTING! Lighting can change the look of your entire party!
1. Lighting
Lighting is so very important when throwing an incredible party! It transforms the room entirely!
In order to accentuate the ceiling props(I’ll explain below), I decided to go with green and purple uplighting!
I strategically placed them around the perimeter of the room and pointed them up the walls.
I also made sure to hide the light behind furniture or a prop, to be sure it wasn’t blinding, but more like mood lighting.
These lights * are the actual lights I used for this party! And now, I use them for every party I host. They come with a remote, and you can change each light to ANY color you want! (I bought 8 lights in total)
In addition to the uplights, I also added these black light bars and these black light bulbs (2 packs)to add to my light fixtures. I wanted everything to GLOW!
2. Hang Creepy Cloth on the Ceiling
Adding creepy cloth to the ceiling gives you the drama and depth that is needed to create the atmosphere you’re really looking for.
You want your guests to feel like they are walking into a FOREST, and this gives the illusion of treetops!
I used these white push pins* to attach the creepy cloth to the ceiling.
I also made sure to stretch the creepy cloth in different angles and directions to be sure it didn’t look TOO uniform.
This creepy cloth* includes crows to set on your forest branches! I ordered several packs!
3. Add Glow in the dark spiderweb & Ivy to your creepy cloth
Because I also had black lights, I stretched GLOW IN THE DARK spiderwebs to the ceiling!
Some of the spiderweb I purchased didn’t glow in the blacklight! I believe the one that glowed the brightest was from Walmart. The packs sold at dollar tree glowed well too!
I also added this Faux Vine hanging from the creepy cloth to give the illusion of treetops! (I had eucalyptus on hand that I hung as well)
4. Branches & Crows
I placed these branches in vases on all of my tables, as centerpieces.
I placed these crows on any branch I was able.
Then, I ordered these tall whimsical branches to place in front of the windows and any bare spots(including corners) to give the forest illusion.
5. Forest Scene Backdrop
Next, I hung a scene of spooky trees behind my food table as well as these floating candles! (I feel like these made such a difference)
This was my focal point that guests would see as soon as they walked up the stairs. So, you want to make an impact!
I wanted the walls to look like trees to keep the haunted forest theme!
Here is the backdrop if you want to use the same!
6. Add Details
I used LAUNDRY DETERGENT to put hand prints and write on the walls!! It glows in the dark and washes off easily. And makes your house smell AMAZING btw! lol
I even used my 3 year old’s hands to make little kid hand prints and he had so much fun doing it!
Next, I hung these witch hats (they came in a pack) from the ceiling throughout the house.
This created different height levels of the decor on the ceiling to CATCH YOUR EYE!
And these silhouette mice to the risers of my stairs!
I hung spiderweb on any bare ceilings! I also added these bats on any walls that seemed “naked”. As well as these spiders crawling up my kitchen cabinets!
These are the creepy pictures I hung by my front door. They changed into skeletons as you walked by them!!
And I made this HOCUS POCUS SPELLBOOK. I absolutely love it and if you’d like to make one too, click HERE or on the picture of the Spell book!
7. Now, the COSTUME!
I’m a little more obsessed with Halloween than my husband, lol! But we were the Joker & the Riddler!
This party was sooo much fun! And I hope yours turns out PERFECT!!
