Hey Guys! Its almost spooky season! So, I’m starting to make my unique Halloween Decorations. (yes, already!)
I created this Haunted Doll House out of an old Barbie house that I found on Facebook Marketplace for $15! Let me show you how to have an amazing Halloween prop for very little cost!
Let’s make it a HALLOWEEN HAUNTED HOUSE!
I used it as a centerpiece of my Halloween Party Food table and it was BEAUTIFUL and CREEPY with soo many compliments!

1. Spray Paint your House
I started with this gray spray paint all over the house as a base coat! Make sure you get all of the ledges and balconies really well.
I left it outside to dry overnight, but I’m sure it may not take that long! Be sure you didn’t miss any spots, and if you did, no biggie! Just throw on a second coat of gray spray paint.
Next, I painted the roof of the house with this black acrylic paint but you can use any kind you prefer.
2. White Dry Brushing
This part gives your house the old worn & weathered look it needs! Most haunted houses aren’t bright and shiny, lol.
It doesn’t have to be uniform or perfect.
I used this white matte acrylic paint and would wipe the bulk off of the brush on a paper towel. Then start in the corners of the house and drag it out until the brush is dry.
Repeat dry brushing until all of your siding looks like old weathered siding and allow to dry.
3. Black Paint Details
So, this detailing is to add the neglected & grungy look! I have no idea how else to describe that, lol.
Make sure you have a small cup of water nearby and some paper towels.
Starting in the corners again, using a small paint brush, I put a thin line of black paint under each piece of siding. (only do a couple at a time, you don’t want it to dry yet!)
I would paint under a couple of pieces siding, then clean my brush in the water cup, and use the wet brush to spread the line of paint out(so there aren’t any clean/straight lines).
Quickly wipe any excess paint or water off with a paper towel so that it doesn’t leave any noticeable drips.
I thought of rainfall(as if this were a real house) and would put black paint in any areas that rain wouldn’t easily wash it off. Basically, anywhere mold would grow on an old house!
See the difference?
4. Add your Decorations
Here is the fun part! And your kiddos can help as a fun Halloween Activity!
Send them on a small scavenger hunt around the backyard for small twigs and sticks for the “front porch”. (If they want to help, of course!)
I got both kinds of moss from Dollar Tree(the bright green and the brown moss).
I also bought all of my skulls, skeletons, spiders(rings), and mini pumpkins at Dollar Tree!
Just grab a hot glue gun and start adding wherever you like.
Such a fun and inexpensive project!
I cut up small pieces of creepy cloth, like this one, and glued it in the windows!
And, here’s the finished project!!!
I added orange and purple battery powered lights to the inside that I found at Dollar Tree as well! (I forgot to get pictures of the house with the lights on!)
But here is what the Haunted House looked like at my Halloween Party!
